Job Brief
We are looking for a 2nd Line IT Support Engineer (plus) to join our team. This role would suit either an experienced 1st Line Support Engineer looking to develop into a 2nd Line role, or an established 2nd Line Engineer looking to broaden their technical skills.
The successful candidate will provide 2nd Line technical support, resolving escalated issues from 1st Line support and assisting users with day-to-day technical problems. The role will also provide opportunities to work alongside our Systems Engineer on wider IT activities, including system improvements, testing, application development, infrastructure changes, and security-related tasks.
Training and development will be provided on company-specific systems and the successful candidate will work across Microsoft and Linux environments, supporting installations, updates, configuration, licensing, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities
- 2 level support (and 1 level when required).
- Internal systems and software auditing.
- Installing, configuring, testing and maintaining operating systems, application software and system management tools.
- Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes.
- Monitoring all installed systems and infrastructure ensuring the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
- Systems development and documentation maintenance
- Liaise with IT personnel and 3 parties for problem resolution.
Requirements and skills
Essential skills:
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical users.
- Good standard of English and numeracy skills to support accurate documentation, troubleshooting, and analysis.
- Strong problem-solving and logical thinking abilities.
Additional technical skills (experience in at least two areas preferred):
- Programming, scripting, and version control experience (e.g. Git).
- Knowledge of network security principles, security controls, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with SharePoint administration and Power Automate workflows.
- Experience supporting Exchange Online and/or Exchange Server (on-premises).
- Experience with Windows-based environments, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with UNIX/Linux-based environments, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with virtualisation and containerisation technologies.
- Experience with monitoring systems and alerting platforms.
- Networking knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of WordPress administration and support.

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
