Role Overview
We are seeking a reliable, resilient, and engaging Alternative Provision Support Staff member to work within mainstream and alternative education settings. The role involves providing 1:1 and small group support to children and young people who require additional assistance to engage positively with education. Full training will be provided.
The successful candidate will focus on building strong, professional relationships with students, supporting them to develop confidence, resilience, and strategies for success in school. Structured session plans will be provided, and staff are expected to follow these while adapting delivery to meet individual student needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver 1:1 and small group support sessions within school settings
- Build positive, consistent relationships with students to encourage engagement and trust
- Follow provided session plans and adapt activities appropriately to individual needs
- Introduce practical techniques to support emotional regulation, confidence, and learning behaviours
- Promote positive behaviour, resilience, and engagement with education
- Complete accurate weekly reports on student progress, engagement, and outcomes
- Communicate effectively with schools and the wider support team
- Maintain professional standards at all times
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience working with children or young people (education, support, or care-based roles)
- Ability to engage positively with students who may present with behavioural or emotional needs
- Resilient, reliable, and adaptable approach to work
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to follow structured session plans and adapt delivery when required
Desirable Experience
- Experience working in a school setting within the last two years
- Experience supporting children 1:1 or in small group settings
- Full UK driving licence and access to a car
