Bricklaying Squad Leader – Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and reliable Bricklaying Squad Leader to lead a team of bricklayers on residential construction projects.
The Squad Leader will receive a higher split in recognition of the additional responsibility and leadership required for the role. This position is suited to an experienced bricklayer who can lead by example, maintain high standards of workmanship and ensure the squad works efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a squad of bricklayers on site.
- Read and understand construction drawings, specifications and plans accurately.
- Set out work correctly and ensure the squad follows drawings and specifications.
- Take responsibility for the overall quality of the squad’s workmanship.
- Ensure all work is completed to the required NHBC standards and site specifications.
- Check brickwork regularly and identify and rectify any issues before they become a problem.
- Maintain consistent standards across the whole squad.
- Organise the squad effectively to ensure work is completed on programme and to the required standard.
- Communicate effectively with site management, supervisors and other trades.
- Lead by example and support less experienced members of the squad.
- Ensure the squad maintains a clean, safe and organised working area.
- Take ownership of any quality issues and work with site management to resolve them quickly.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a bricklayer.
- Previous experience leading a gang or squad is preferred.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
- Excellent knowledge of bricklaying techniques and residential construction.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Good understanding of NHBC standards and requirements.
- Ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Reliable, professional and able to take responsibility for the squad’s output.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
Higher Split & Responsibility
The Squad Leader is paid a higher split than the rest of the squad to reflect the additional responsibility attached to the role.
This higher split is earned through taking ownership of the squad’s quality, productivity, organisation and overall performance. The Squad Leader is expected to ensure the team understands what is required, follows the drawings correctly and delivers work to the required standard.
This is a hands-on leadership role, and the Squad Leader is expected to continue producing high-quality brickwork while overseeing the wider squad.
Pay: £35,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
