Lead a specialist service that protects people and their finances
Calderdale Council is looking for an Appointee and Deputy Team Leader to lead a specialist team responsible for managing the financial affairs, benefits, property and assets of vulnerable adults who are unable to manage these themselves.
This is a varied and rewarding role where you will combine team leadership, financial oversight, safeguarding, risk management and statutory compliance. You will oversee complex Appointee and Deputy cases, support staff with high-risk decisions, and ensure client finances are managed safely, lawfully and in each person’s best interests.
We are looking for someone with strong financial judgement, excellent organisational skills and experience of supervising, supporting or managing staff. You may already have experience in Appointeeship or Deputyship, but we also welcome applicants with transferable experience managing complex financial responsibilities involving client funds, benefits, income, expenditure, property, assets or financial safeguarding.
You will need to be confident working with legislation, procedures and financial controls, and able to deal with sensitive situations calmly, professionally and with empathy.
In return, you will have the opportunity to lead a committed team, develop specialist expertise, shape the future of the service and make a real difference to vulnerable adults across Calderdale.
This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check with an adults’ barred list check. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes is required, although adjustments can be considered for candidates with a disability.
Closing date: 5th August 2026
Interviews: 20th and 21st August 2026 (in person) at Princess Buildings, Princess Street, Halifax.
Previous applicants need not apply.
This role is based in the UK. Home Office guidance states that candidates must evidence their right to work in the UK prior to commencing employment, either as a UK or Irish citizen, under the EU Settlement scheme or having secured any other relevant work visa.
If you do not have the right to work in the UK, you must consider your own eligibility for sponsorship for a particular role through the Skilled Worker visa route before applying. To be eligible for sponsorship you'll usually need to be paid the standard salary rate of at least £41,700 per year (unless exceptions apply) and meet the other eligibility criteria. Ensure you are eligible before applying.
