Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Chef to join an exciting new rural pub concept The Oak & Olive - Whatlington, affiliated with La Bella Vista in St Leonards. This role offers the opportunity to be part of a growing business that combines a relaxed countryside pub atmosphere with high-quality, Italian-influenced food.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering a simple yet elevated menu, including pizzas, while supporting the day-to-day running of both the kitchen and wider site. With accommodation available, this is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to immerse themselves in a hands-on hospitality role within a lifestyle setting.
Duties
- Support the development and delivery of a seasonal, pub-style menu with Italian influence, including high-quality pizzas.
- Prepare, cook, and present dishes to a consistently high standard.
- Take ownership of day-to-day kitchen operations, ensuring efficiency and organisation.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness across the kitchen, including washing up and general upkeep.
- Assist with the cleaning and presentation of on-site accommodation where required, ensuring excellent guest standards.
- Monitor stock, manage deliveries, and ensure proper storage of ingredients.
- Uphold strict food safety and hygiene standards at all times.
- Work closely with front-of-house to create a warm, seamless guest experience.
- Support and guide junior team members in a small, close-knit team environment.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Chef in a pub, restaurant, or similar hospitality setting.
- Experience with pizza making (dough preparation, stretching, and cooking) is highly desirable.
- A hands-on, adaptable approach with willingness to support across different areas of the business.
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Ability to work independently in a rural setting as well as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail in both food and cleanliness standards.
- Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends.
- A genuine passion for hospitality, quality food, and creating a welcoming guest experience.
