Experienced Data Cabling Engineer – South & West Wales

About the Role
DSM Solutions is looking for experienced Data Cabling Engineers to support a growing programme of commercial and public-sector projects across South and West Wales.
We are particularly interested in engineers based in West Wales, Swansea, Carmarthenshire and the surrounding areas, although applications are welcomed from experienced engineers throughout South Wales.
The majority of the work involves the installation of structured copper and fibre cabling within live commercial, industrial and public-sector environments.
We are looking for engineers who can work confidently with minimal supervision, maintain a high standard of installation and accurately test and document completed work.
Typical Work
Projects will include:
- Installation of Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6A structured cabling
- Installation and termination of fibre-optic cabling
- Termination of data outlets, patch panels and cabinets
- Installation of basket, tray, trunking and other cable containment
- Working within existing communications rooms and network cabinets
- Cable routing through commercial and industrial buildings
- Fibre termination, splicing and testing where suitably experienced
- Copper cable testing and fault finding
- Installation of cabinets, patch panels and associated infrastructure
- Labelling and documenting completed installations
- Reading drawings, cable schedules and marked-up plans
- Identifying and resolving installation issues on site
- Working safely within occupied and operational customer premises
What We're Looking For
Applicants should have proven practical experience in structured data cabling and be capable of completing installations to a professional standard.
Experience with the following is particularly useful:
- Cat6 and Cat6A installation and termination
- Copper cable testing and certification
- Fibre-optic cabling
- Fluke or equivalent test equipment
- Network cabinets and patching
- Commercial cable containment
- Working on larger multi-point installations
- CCTV or other ELV systems
Relevant industry qualifications and certifications are advantageous, but practical structured-cabling experience and quality of workmanship are particularly important to us.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
Working Arrangements
Work is primarily Monday to Friday, although overtime, evening and weekend work is regularly available depending on the project.
Most of our current requirement is within South and West Wales, with a particular need for experienced engineers who can cover West Wales.
Some projects elsewhere in the UK may require overnight stays.
