Job Title: PE Teacher / Sports Coach (SEN – Subject Specialist, Autism Provision)
Subject Specialism: PE & Sports
Location: Lake House School
Salary: Competitive M1-M6
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Reports to: Assistant Head Teacher/ Deputy Headteacher
Purpose of the Role
Lake House School is a specialist school in Bolton for children and young people aged 5-16 with autism and associated needs, and we're looking for an enthusiastic PE Teacher / Sports Coach to join our growing team.
This isn't a traditional PE role.
We want someone who can make sport fun, accessible and meaningful for pupils who may not always have had positive experiences of PE or education.
You might be a qualified PE teacher. You might be an experienced sports coach looking for something different. For us, the right person matters just as much as the qualification.
Significant experience of working with and supporting pupils with ASC is essential.
What you'll be doing
· Deliver engaging and highly adaptable PE and sports sessions.
· Help pupils build confidence, teamwork, resilience and self-belief.
· Introduce pupils to a wide range of sports and physical activities.
· Create opportunities for competitions, events and community sport.
· Support pupils who may be anxious or reluctant to participate.
· Work alongside our education and therapy teams.
· Help shape our PE and sports provision as the school grows.
We don't expect every pupil to love football or competitive sport. Success might be representing Lake House in a competition - or it might be joining a group activity for the first time, learning to ride a bike, going swimming, improving fitness or simply discovering an activity they enjoy.
We want someone who understands the value in all of those achievements.
What we're looking for
You'll be energetic, creative, patient and great at building relationships with young people. Experience of working with children or young people is essential, and experience of autism or SEND would be a real advantage.
We welcome applications from both qualified PE teachers and experienced sports coaches. QTS is desirable but not essential for the right candidate.
Why Lake House?
Our ethos is simple: Growing communication, connection and independence.
You'll be joining a small, supportive and ambitious specialist school where you'll have the freedom to develop something rather than simply inherit an existing PE programme.
You'll work with small groups, benefit from high levels of staff support and collaborate with teachers and therapeutic professionals to help our pupils succeed.
If you believe sport should build confidence, belonging and achievement - not just sporting ability - we'd love to hear from you.
Safeguarding: Lake House School and Blazing Stars Education are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be subject to appropriate safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
We will be shortlisting on 21st September 2026, and looking to hold 15-minute screening calls between then and interviews on Monday 5th October 2026.
