Avanti Fields School is seeking an enthusiastic and highly organised Design and Technology Technician to play a key role in supporting practical teaching and learning across the school.
You will work closely with our DT teachers to prepare materials, tools and equipment for lessons, maintain our workshops and preparation areas, and ensure practical activities are well organised, safe and ready for pupils to use. Your practical expertise and attention to detail will help create an environment where pupils can develop their creativity, problem-solving skills and confidence through hands-on learning.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in maintaining high standards and is confident working independently as well as alongside teaching staff. You will have the opportunity to make a direct contribution to pupils’ learning by ensuring teachers have the resources and equipment they need to deliver engaging, purposeful DT lessons.

What will you do?
- Prepare materials, equipment, tools and resources for DT lessons, demonstrations and practical projects, ensuring everything is ready and accessible for staff and pupils.
- Maintain DT workshops, classrooms, preparation areas and equipment to a clean, organised and safe standard, carrying out routine checks and arranging repairs where necessary.
- Support teaching staff with the preparation and delivery of practical lessons, including setting up apparatus, constructing equipment and managing resources.
- Monitor, organise and maintain stock levels, including consumables, tools and materials, liaising with staff and suppliers to ensure resources are available when required.
- Promote safe working practices by identifying and reporting potential hazards, carrying out relevant equipment checks and ensuring waste and materials are stored or disposed of responsibly.

What are we looking for?
- Educated to GCSE – including in English, mathematics and science
- An ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Experience and Excellent track record in the field of health and safety in a support role
- Ability to cope with periods of pressure and prioritise workload accordingly so that deadlines are met
- Commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of all students
