Joining us as a Finance Officer, you will play a key role within our rapidly growing business, working with our established team to drive sustainable financial performance across the Society. You will need to work with a high degree of accuracy to ensure that excellent standards of financial administration and management are met. This role could be suitable for someone who has substantial finance experience and who may be seeking to move into a Finance Manager role later in their career.
Contract: Permanent (35 hours per week office based, flexible working and/or part-time would be considered)
Salary: £30,000 to £35,000 depending on experience, ability and qualifications

Railway Enginemen’s Assurance Society
At Railway Enginemen’s Assurance, we specialise in providing savings and investment plans to people who work in the railway industry.
Over recent years, we have achieved significant growth in our business levels and membership, so we need to expand our team.
The successful applicant will report to the Finance Manager under the overall direction of the Chief Executive.
Your work will include:
· Posting transactions to the general ledger and policy administration system.
· Handling complex investment and premium income data.
· Making payments through the Society’s bank accounts to both customers and other third parties.
· Performing bank reconciliations on a monthly basis.
· Calculating amounts due to customers when they withdraw their investments.
· Preparation of financial information in line with prescribed deadlines.
· Ensuring data quality and reporting accuracy across the business.
· Maintaining the provision of the highest level of customer service standards for members.
· Demonstrating effective use of spreadsheets and word processing skills.
· Ensuring that robust financial controls are maintained, supporting compliance with regulatory standards whilst proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
· Ability to deputise for the Finance Manager, where appropriate.
What we are looking for
Essential
· Three GCSEs graded 4-9 or equivalent including English and Maths
· Substantial experience in a finance role (at least 3 years)
· Thorough understanding of accounting software
· Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
· Strong organisation and time management skills to be able to work to deadlines
· Attention to detail, with the ability to detect and correct errors
· A high level of computer literacy and knowledge of IT systems.
· Highly proficient in using Excel.
· Conscientious, honest, and ability to work flexibly in a small team
· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced evolving environment
· Combination of commercial acumen with excellent analytical and financial skills.
Desirable
· AAT or equivalent
· Qualified or part-qualified accountant
· Experience in a financial services business
