Job Overview
The Transport and Distribution Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the company's transport and distribution operations. The role ensures the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of goods while maintaining compliance with UK transport regulations and delivering excellent customer service.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, organise, and manage daily transport and distribution activities.
- Coordinate vehicle schedules, delivery routes, and driver assignments.
- Monitor fleet utilisation and ensure vehicles are maintained and roadworthy.
- Ensure compliance with UK transport legislation, health and safety requirements, and company policies.
- Supervise transport staff, drivers, and operational teams.
- Monitor delivery performance and resolve operational issues promptly.
- Manage transport budgets and identify opportunities to reduce operating costs.
- Maintain accurate transport records, reports, and documentation.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, and third-party logistics providers.
- Investigate service issues, accidents, or delays and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor fuel consumption, vehicle efficiency, and fleet performance.
- Develop and improve transport procedures to increase operational efficiency.
- Ensure customer deliveries are completed on time and to the required standards.
- Support recruitment, training, and performance management of transport staff.
Requirements
- Previous experience in transport, logistics, or distribution management.
- Strong knowledge of UK transport regulations and compliance requirements.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and transport management systems.
- Good understanding of health and safety legislation.
- Full UK driving licence (preferred).
Pay: £33,400.00 per year
