About JMG Fencing
JMG Fencing is a rapidly growing fencing contractor working with national house builders and developers across the Midlands. We currently manage 44+ active sites, supported by 18 self-employed fencing teams and 4 employed Supervisors.
As our business continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Operations Manager to work directly alongside the Owner and become a key member of our leadership team.
This is not a role where you'll simply maintain existing operations. We're looking for someone who wants to help build, improve, and shape how the business operates while developing into the person who oversees the day-to-day running of our operations.
You'll receive direct mentoring from the Owner, learning how we operate, building relationships with our clients and developers, and gradually taking on greater responsibility as you become established within the business.
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on role combining office-based planning with regular site visits, team leadership, client liaison, and operational management.
You'll work closely with the Owner, Supervisors, HR, Finance, and our site teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and to the high standards our clients expect.
For the right person, this is a genuine long-term opportunity to become one of the Company's senior operational leaders.
What You'll Be Doing
Operations
Your primary responsibility will be ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of our operations by:
- Managing the daily operational planner, issued each afternoon at 2:00pm for the following day's works.
- Allocating labour, materials, and resources across multiple active sites.
- Managing and supporting our employed Supervisors and self-employed fencing teams.
- Monitoring productivity, programme delivery, and operational performance.
- Resolving day-to-day operational issues and reacting quickly to changing site requirements.
- Working closely with the Yard team to ensure materials and equipment are ready for site.
- Ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to Company standards.
Site Management
You'll regularly be out on site to ensure projects are running smoothly by:
- Carrying out site visits and quality inspections.
- Building strong relationships with site managers, developers, and clients.
- Attending site meetings where required.
- Supporting Supervisors with technical and operational challenges.
- Managing customer care and snagging works.
- Monitoring Health & Safety compliance and Company procedures.
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship across all projects.
Leadership & Team Development
Working closely with the Owner and HR, you'll help build a high-performing operational team by:
- Leading, supporting, and developing Supervisors and Team Leaders.
- Mentoring and coaching employees to improve performance and confidence.
- Identifying training and development needs.
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding, and workforce planning.
- Assisting with performance management and regular employee reviews.
- Helping build a positive, accountable, and professional culture across the business.
Strategic Growth
As your understanding of the business develops, you'll progressively take on greater responsibility by:
- Learning directly from the Owner.
- Building long-term relationships with developers, site managers, and key clients.
- Identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
- Helping develop systems and processes that support future growth.
- Taking increasing ownership of the day-to-day operational management of the business.
Travel Requirements
This is a field-based operational role and will involve daily travel to sites across the Midlands.
You will be expected to carry out regular site visits, quality inspections, meetings with site managers and developers, and provide support to Supervisors and operational teams.
Projects may be located up to approximately 1.5 hours from our Naseby yard, so flexibility and a willingness to travel are essential.
A full UK Driving Licence is required.
About You
We're looking for someone who enjoys leading people, solving problems, and taking ownership.
You'll ideally have:
- Experience in an Operations Manager, Contracts Manager, Site Manager, or similar construction management role.
- Experience managing multiple construction sites and operational teams.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent organisational and planning ability.
- The confidence to build relationships with clients, developers, site managers, and employees.
- A practical, hands-on approach to leadership.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Good commercial awareness and an understanding of project performance.
- A willingness to learn, develop, and grow with the business.
- A full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Experience within fencing, construction, groundworks, civil engineering, or housebuilding.
- SMSTS or SSSTS qualification.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and compliance.
- Experience managing subcontractors and directly employed teams.
What We Offer
- A genuine long-term career opportunity within a growing business.
- Direct mentoring and training from the Owner.
- The opportunity to become a key member of the Company's leadership team.
- Ongoing professional development and increasing responsibility.
- The chance to help shape the future of the business, improve operational systems, and build strong relationships with our clients and developers.
