About the role
We’re looking for an Assistant Accountant to handle accounting for all aspects of cost accruals and prepayments, maintaining the fixed assets schedule, processing commission payments, analysing weekly/monthly margins and producing promotional claims.

Responsibilities:
- Maintain and analyse the weekly margin report and identify any discrepancies that need to be looked in to. Produce and maintain the monthly margin report and identify any anomalies within the margins.
- Calculating and posting of monthly cost accruals and prepayments. Providing information on any month-on-month variances and any variances to budget
- Take part in the annual budget setting process for the costs of the business
- Collate payment information for the commission payments to our van sales force and ensure this is released to the relevant managers for authorisation within the deadline
- Ensure all promotional funding is applied to the system to ensure the margin reports are showing the most up to date and relevant information. Claims for the promotional funding also need to be produced correctly and to strict monthly deadlines.
- Maintaining the fixed asset schedule, ensuring all additions and disposals are recorded correctly and in a timely manner and produce the monthly depreciation journal
- Liaise with our central payables team to ensure supplier invoices are coded correctly and paid on time.
- Any ad-hoc analysis tasks as required by management.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Commercially focussed part qualified accountant with experience in a similar planning and reporting environment, but ideally within a large retail or a fast-moving consumer goods business. Experience preferred but not essential.
- Analytical and inquisitive – ability to identify and solve issues which will affect the profitability of the vans business. Recommend actions to the senior team
- A high degree of computer skills and numeracy are required. Proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Office, particularly excel, is essential.
- Excellent communication skills are required.
