Experienced Heating Engineer – Haywards Heath & Mid Sussex
Smart Heat Experts Ltd is recruiting a qualified, experienced Heating Engineer to join our growing local team.
This is not a trainee or improver heating role.
The £40,000–£52,000+ package reflects the level we need: someone who already understands domestic heating, can work confidently in customers’ homes and can independently handle boiler servicing, repairs, heating faults and general plumbing work.
We can support the right engineer with progression into air conditioning, heat pumps, advanced controls and renewables, but strong domestic heating experience is required from day one.
THE ROLE
This is a heating-led position with plumbing variety. Typical work includes:
- Domestic boiler servicing
- Boiler breakdown diagnosis and repair
- Central-heating system fault-finding
- Heating controls and electrical testing
- Pumps, motorised valves and wiring centres
- Radiator and circulation problems
- Sealed-system pressure faults
- Cylinders and hot-water faults
- Boiler replacement and commissioning
- General plumbing repairs and installations
- Clear customer advice and accurate job records
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
You must already have:
- Current domestic gas qualifications, including CCN1 and CENWAT
- Proven domestic heating experience
- Confidence servicing domestic boilers independently
- Boiler repair and fault-finding experience
- Central-heating fault-finding experience
- Experience with controls, pumps, valves, radiators, cylinders, pressure, circulation and pipework
- Practical general plumbing experience
- A full UK driving licence
- Clean, tidy workmanship
- Professional customer communication
- The ability to work safely and independently in customers’ homes
Air-conditioning, heat-pump and renewables experience is an advantage, but it is not essential.
Heating experience is essential.

Our work follows the seasons. Some additional weekday hours are worked during the busy winter period and returned through earned Friday finishes from July to October. Weekends remain protected with no standard weekend working.
Company vans are kept at the Haywards Heath office overnight, so you must be able to travel reliably to and from the office each working day.
PACKAGE LEVELS
Qualified Heating Engineer: £40,000–£44,000
Already independent on routine servicing, common repairs, heating fault-finding and general plumbing.
Experienced Heating Engineer: £44,000–£48,000
Strong servicing, repair and heating-system knowledge with the ability to manage varied customer work independently.
Senior Heating & Fault-Finding Engineer: £48,000–£52,000+
Advanced diagnostic skills, excellent customer care and the potential to support other engineers as the business grows.
