About Us
The Pilchard Inn is a historic coastal pub located on the tidal Burgh Island, welcoming hotel guests, visitors, and locals alike. From relaxed lunches and evening dining to live music nights, BBQ events, and summer café service, no two days are ever the same.
During our busy summer season, our team also supports our downstairs café operation and seasonal island events, creating a varied and engaging role with plenty of opportunities to develop your hospitality skills.
The Role
As a Food & Beverage Assistant, you will play an important role in delivering outstanding guest experiences across The Pilchard Inn and seasonal café operation. You’ll work closely with the wider Food & Beverage team to ensure smooth service, high standards, and a warm welcome for every guest.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering friendly, professional and efficient food and drink service
- Welcoming and seating guests whilst providing menu recommendations
- Taking food and beverage orders accurately using the EPOS system
- Preparing service areas for lunch and dinner service
- Supporting bar service and beverage preparation
- Advising guests on allergens and menu items confidently
- Maintaining cleanliness, presentation and service standards throughout the venue
- Supporting seasonal events including BBQs, live music nights and exclusive functions
- Assisting with opening and closing duties
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the island operation
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has a genuine passion for hospitality and guest service
- Enjoys working within a busy, team-focused environment
- Brings energy, positivity and professionalism to every shift
- Is confident communicating with guests and colleagues
- Has previous hospitality or food & beverage experience (preferred but not essential)
- Is flexible and reliable, with availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays
- Thrives in a varied role where no two days are the same
Working Hours & Flexibility
The Pilchard Inn operates between 10:30am – 10:30pm, with shift patterns varying between 9:00am – 11:00pm depending on business levels and seasonal events.
This is a 40-hour contract across 5 days out of 7 on a rota basis, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.

Live-in accommodation may be available within our subsidised staff housing, subject to availability at the time of offer.
Important to Know
Due to our tidal island location, live-out applicants must have a full driving licence and access to transport.
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship at this time.
