Job Name: Sales Account Manager

Job Purpose
To retain, service, and grow a portfolio of approximately 300 accounts by delivering a structured contact plan (minimum two proactive customer touches per account per week), ensuring high service levels, maximising margin and volume through target pricing compliance, and generating new business through referrals, reactivation, and structured prospecting.
This role is commercially accountable for maintaining pricing discipline (using business-set target prices) while driving growth through value-led selling, service reliability, and strong account planning.
Key Responsibilities
1) Structured Account Coverage & Relationship Management
- Manage a portfolio of c.300 accounts with a planned weekly contact cadence.
- Ensure minimum two proactive touches per account per week (calls, email follow-ups, Teams meetings) with outcomes logged in CRM.
- Build multi-threaded relationships (buyer, finance contact, ops/transport contact).
- Conduct structured account reviews for top-tier accounts (weekly/monthly depending on size).
2) Fuel Sales Execution (Volume + Margin)
- Quote and secure orders aligned to target pricing and commercial guidelines.
- Sell on value: reliability of supply, delivery performance, credit terms, service, and product mix (e.g., HVO where relevant).
- Track and pursue quote conversions with clear next steps and follow-up SLAs.
3) Pricing Discipline & Margin Governance (Business-set Target Prices)
- Work within target price / margin corridors defined by the business.
- Escalate exceptions for approval (documenting reason, competitor, volume, strategic value).
- Maintain margin hygiene: understand GP, pence-per-litre (PPL) and risk factors.
- Ensure compliance with pricing and discount governance and maintain a clean audit trail in CRM.
4) New Business Generation (Alongside Account Base)
- Develop new opportunities via:
- referrals from existing accounts
- lapsed account reactivation
- inbound and marketing leads
- targeted lists within agreed sectors/geography
- Qualify opportunities and convert to first order and repeat trading within defined timeframes.
5) Service, Order Management & Issue Resolution
- Coordinate with operations/logistics to ensure smooth delivery execution.
- Proactively manage customer expectations around lead times, availability, and market volatility.
- Own and resolve issues (delivery queries, short loads, quality queries, invoicing), escalating appropriately.
6) CRM & Admin Excellence
- Maintain accurate CRM data: contacts, pricing notes, volumes, stage, next actions, and outcomes.
- Produce weekly pipeline and activity reporting.
- Support finance/credit control processes with timely customer communication.
Skills & Competencies
Essential
- Proven experience in B2B sales/account management (wholesale, distribution, or commodities advantageous).
- Strong phone-based selling and negotiation.
- Excellent organisation and time management for high-volume account portfolios.
- Commercial numeracy: margin, GP, pricing corridors, cost-to-serve awareness.
- CRM discipline: consistent logging, task management, pipeline tracking.
- Professional communication with customers and internal operations teams.
