Are you an experienced Chef looking for a varied role across two locations?
We are seeking a friendly, proactive and experienced Chef to join our company in a varied multi-site position.
The successful candidate will work across two locations, with the food requirements and style of service varying depending on the site.
At one location, you will prepare nutritious, balanced and age-appropriate meals for young children, including meals for babies and children with specific dietary requirements. At the other location, you will prepare and serve a broader range of meals for a higher-volume food service, catering for a larger number of covers and a wider range of tastes and requirements.
We are looking for someone who is organised, adaptable and takes pride in preparing high-quality food while maintaining excellent standards of food hygiene, safety and presentation.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for the day-to-day preparation, cooking and serving of food across both locations. You will ensure that menus are followed appropriately, dietary requirements and allergens are managed effectively, and food is prepared and served to a consistently high standard.
The successful candidate will need to be comfortable adapting their approach between sites and managing different meal specifications, quantities and service requirements.
Key Requirements
- Previous professional kitchen or catering experience.
- Experience working within a nursery, care, family-focused or high-volume catering environment would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating, including infant and early childhood nutrition.
- Understanding of special dietary needs, including allergies, intolerances, cultural preferences and vegetarian diets.
- Strong understanding of food hygiene, allergen management and safe food preparation.
- Familiarity with Safer Food, Better Business record-keeping and food temperature monitoring.
- Ability to plan, prepare and adapt meals for different audiences and settings.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage stock, ordering and kitchen routines.
- Flexibility to travel between locations as required.
ResponsibilitiesMeal Preparation
- Prepare and serve nutritious, well-presented meals across both locations.
- At the early years location, prepare morning snacks, balanced age-appropriate lunches, puréed meals for babies and nutritious afternoon snacks.
- Prepare meals appropriate for a larger-volume food service at the second location.
- Follow current menus and agreed meal specifications.
- Adapt meals where necessary to meet individual dietary requirements and allergies.
- Ensure meals are prepared, cooked and served safely and hygienically.
- Maintain consistently high standards of presentation, taste and quality.
Kitchen Hygiene & Organisation
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation across all kitchen and food preparation areas.
- Follow all Health & Safety and food hygiene requirements.
- Complete daily cleaning tasks in accordance with the relevant cleaning schedules and checklists.
- Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment and report faults promptly.
- Ensure fridges, freezers, storage areas and preparation areas are maintained appropriately.
- Rotate dry-store stock and maintain appropriate stock levels.
- Complete regular defrosting and maintenance routines for fridges and freezers as required.
General Kitchen Duties
- Wash up and complete general kitchen duties as required.
- Keep kitchen areas clean, tidy and organised throughout the working day.
- Organise kitchen spaces effectively to support efficient food preparation and service.
- Ensure waste is disposed of appropriately and food waste is kept to a minimum.
- Support the smooth running of food service at each location.
Record Keeping & Inventory
- Complete regular stock checks and place supply orders.
- Monitor food stock, expiry dates and storage conditions.
- Rotate stock appropriately and minimise food waste.
- Verify invoices against deliveries and report discrepancies to the relevant manager.
- Maintain accurate records relating to food temperatures, cleaning, allergens and food safety.
- Support and oversee kitchen audits and inspections, ensuring required standards are maintained.
Additional Expectations
- Attend relevant staff meetings, training sessions and professional development.
- Take ownership of kitchen equipment and ensure faults, maintenance and replacements are reported and managed appropriately.
- Work collaboratively with managers and staff at both locations.
- Communicate effectively regarding menus, dietary requirements, stock and any kitchen-related concerns.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional standards at all times.
- Demonstrate flexibility and a positive attitude when working across different locations.
- Ensure the kitchen operates in accordance with company policies and procedures.

- Relevant catering or professional cookery qualification.
- Level 2 Food Safety qualification.
- Paediatric or childcare catering experience.
- Experience with allergen and dietary management.
