We are currently looking for a qualified Planner or Senior Planner to join our Development and Enforcement Team on a temporary basis to cover a maternity period.
The Role
This role is ideal for someone working towards RTPI qualification. We use the planning function to help to protect the valued characteristics of our National Park and this role will provide an opportunity to deal with a wide range of planning casework and develop specialist skills in rural planning, with a focus on landscape and heritage conservation. The Peak District National Park is a treasured landscape that has been shaped by the long interaction of natural and cultural forces and you will play an important role in maintaining the balance between people and nature to ensure that the Park can be enjoyed for generations to come.
Working in the north area team of the Authority’s development management service, you will process planning applications and associated development management matters. Reporting to the Area Team Manager, you will negotiate with applicants on planning applications and prepare reports and recommendations to the Planning Committee.
You will frequently work alongside our in-house conservation, archaeology, landscape, ecology, and arboriculture specialists, providing excellent opportunities for professional development in conservation practice. You will also provide advice (including pre-application advice) to applicants and members of the public on planning matters and prepare case documentation on planning appeals, including formal hearings and public inquiries.
About You
To join us as either a Planner or Senior Planner, you will need:
- Experience of development management practice, planning law and regulations
- Effective negotiation skills and the ability to make balanced judgements
- Good IT skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and databases
- An RTPI recognised qualification and relevant experience
RTPI membership would be desirable. Evidence of continuing professional development in planning and related subjects would be beneficial to your application, as would knowledge of design and/or construction issues, and rural planning and/or conservation issues, however, these aspects are essential for a Senior Planner role.

Salary
The post and salary offered will be based on the knowledge, skills and experience demonstrated during the selection process. For information, the salaries are: Planner £33,673-£39,481 and Senior Planner £40,444-£43,149
