Job Summary
We are looking for a warm, creative and enthusiastic Activities Coordinator to join our team at The Willow Residential Care Home.
The Willow is a small, friendly residential care home supporting older people, including residents living with dementia and Alzheimer's. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of our activities programme and bring energy, creativity and new ideas to the home.
This is a hands-on role. You will spend time getting to know our residents, understanding their individual interests and abilities, and creating meaningful activities that they genuinely enjoy.
An important part of the role will also be capturing life at The Willow through photos, short videos and regular Facebook posts, helping families stay connected and showcasing the activities and events taking place within the home.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver a varied and engaging programme of activities for our residents.
- Provide a mixture of group and one-to-one activities, recognising that residents have different interests, abilities and levels of engagement.
- Organise activities such as arts and crafts, games, music, reminiscence, gentle exercise and other meaningful activities.
- Plan and coordinate outings and trips appropriate to residents' interests and abilities.
- Organise birthday celebrations, seasonal events and special occasions.
- Arrange external entertainment, including visiting performers and other local groups.
- Work closely with the care team to understand residents' individual needs, preferences and life histories.
- Encourage residents to participate while respecting individual choice.
- Take good-quality photos and short videos of activities and events, with appropriate consent.
- Post regularly on our Facebook page and other care home profiles to share life at The Willow with families and the wider community.
- Maintain appropriate records of activities, resident participation and feedback.
- Build positive relationships with residents, relatives, colleagues and visitors.
- Ensure activities and outings are carried out safely and appropriately.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, enthusiastic and genuinely enjoys spending time with older people.
- Creative and able to come up with new ideas rather than relying on the same activities each week.
- Confident engaging with residents living with dementia or Alzheimer's, including residents who may require encouragement or one-to-one interaction.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of the activities programme.
- Organised and reliable.
- A confident communicator who can build good relationships with residents, families and colleagues.
- Already comfortable using a smartphone to take photos and videos and posting content to Facebook. Please note that basic social media skills are expected for this role and will not be taught as part of the position.
Experience
Previous experience working in a care home, residential care, dementia care or a similar setting is desirable, particularly in an activities or resident-engagement role.
However, we are also interested in applicants from relevant backgrounds who can demonstrate the right personality, creativity and understanding of older people's needs.
Above all, we are looking for someone who wants to make a genuine difference to our residents' day-to-day lives and who will bring enthusiasm and fresh ideas to The Willow.
