Financial Controller — Foster Cranes & Jekko UK Ltd

Location: Head office (with occasional travel to UK sites)
Hours: Full-time, permanent
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 depending on experience, plus benefits
Qualification: ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified
Role Overview
Foster Cranes & Jekko UK Ltd is the UK dealer for Jekko spider cranes and Aconda tracked carriers, buying, refurbishing and selling new and used lifting equipment. We are looking for a qualified Financial Controller to manage the day-to-day finance function, ensuring accurate reporting, strong financial controls and reliable cash and stock management.
This is an operational finance role reporting into the Managing Director. The Financial Controller will run the core accounting processes and provide accurate, timely financial information to support the business, working alongside external accountants and advisers on year-end, tax and compliance matters. The business's accounting is run on QuickBooks.
Key Responsibilities
- Run the month-end close process, producing timely and accurate management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting.
- Maintain accurate financial controls over stock, including valuation, depreciation and tracking of individually serialised assets (cranes and tracked carriers).
- Prepare information for statutory accounts and support the external accountant through the year-end audit process.
- Manage day-to-day cash flow, bank reconciliations and working capital, including stocking finance arrangements.
- Provide costing and margin analysis on equipment purchases, refurbishment jobs and sales deals.
- Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process, working with the Managing Director and department heads.
- Process and oversee payroll, including the company car arrangement across Foster Cranes and Jekko UK.
- Ensure VAT returns, tax filings and Companies House obligations are completed accurately and on time.
- Manage and develop transactional finance activity — accounts payable, accounts receivable and credit control.
- Maintain and improve accounting systems and processes, including QuickBooks.
- Provide clear, accurate financial reporting to the Managing Director to support day-to-day decision-making.
Candidate Profile
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
- Experience in an SME or owner-managed business is preferred; equipment, plant hire, dealership or manufacturing sector experience is an advantage.
- Strong technical accounting skills with a hands-on, process-driven approach to month-end and reporting.
- Strong Excel skills and confident with accounting software; QuickBooks experience preferred.
- Comfortable working independently in a small finance team without extensive support staff.
- Good communication skills, able to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.
- High attention to detail and reliability, given responsibility for accurate stock and asset records.
