Role: Estimator – Internal Fit Out

At Elk Recruitment, we are looking for a driven Estimator to join our client’s growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate, competitive, and commercially viable cost estimates for a range of interior packages, including drylining, partitions, suspended ceilings, joinery, flooring, and finishes. This role is integral to securing profitable projects and supporting the successful transition from tender stage to project delivery.
Your new role includes:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates from drawings, specifications, bills of quantities (BOQs), and tender documentation.
- Carry out accurate quantity take-offs for drylining, partitions, suspended ceilings, joinery, flooring, and internal finishes.
- Review tender documentation to identify scope requirements, potential risks, omissions, and exclusions.
- Source, assess, and compare quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Develop comprehensive pricing for labour, materials, plant, preliminaries, and associated project costs.
- Produce professional tender submissions, including clarifications, qualifications, and pricing schedules.
- Liaise with main contractors, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors throughout the tender process.
- Identify value engineering opportunities that deliver cost-effective solutions without compromising quality or compliance.
- Maintain and update estimating databases, historical cost information, and benchmarking data.
- Support the successful handover of awarded projects to the commercial and project delivery teams.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in estimating interior fit-out, drylining, suspended ceilings, or related interior trade packages.
- Strong technical knowledge of fit-out systems, materials, and installation methods.
- Ability to interpret architectural drawings, specifications, reflected ceiling plans (RCPs), and construction details.
- Excellent commercial awareness with a sound understanding of subcontractor procurement and risk management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and industry-standard estimating software.
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously while working to tight deadlines.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Experience delivering estimates for commercial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, or data centre fit-out projects.
- Knowledge of fire-rated systems, acoustic performance requirements, and relevant technical standards.
- Familiarity with UK and/or European construction regulations and industry standards.
- Previous experience within specialist interior trades such as drylining, ceilings, flooring, or joinery.
- Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline is advantageous.
