Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursery Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious meals for children in a safe and hygienic environment. Duties
- Prepare and cook meals suitable for young children, ensuring nutritional balance and variety
- Follow established recipes and meal plans to meet dietary requirements and preferences
- Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene throughout all stages of meal preparation
- Organise the kitchen area, ensuring cleanliness, proper storage of ingredients, and compliance with health regulations
- Assist in planning menus that incorporate fresh, seasonal ingredients
- Monitor stock levels and place orders for ingredients as needed to ensure continuous meal service
- Serve meals to children in a friendly and caring manner, promoting positive dining experiences
- Collaborate with nursery staff to accommodate special dietary needs or allergies
- Ensure all kitchen equipment is maintained in good working order and report any faults promptly
Experience
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, ideally within a nursery, childcare setting, or similar environment
- Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations applicable to food handling for children
- Previous experience working in a kitchen or restaurant environment is advantageous
- Familiarity with meal preparation for young children, including understanding their nutritional requirements
- Experience with serving food in a professional setting is desirable
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail and hygiene standards
