Mann Williams are looking for a motivated Civil / Drainage & Flood Risk Engineer to join our growing team working on a wide range of bespoke and technically interesting infrastructure projects across the UK.
Our engineers work on projects where standard solutions rarely work — we are looking for people who enjoy tackling new challenges and developing innovative & bespoke engineering solutions.
Our team has delivered drainage and infrastructure schemes for projects including Silverstone, university campuses, National Trust properties, private estates, heritage sites including projects for the Royal Household. Every project is different, and we are looking for people who want exposure to interesting and technically varied work rather than repetitive developments.
Flood risk and drainage engineering is a growing sector within Mann Williams and an important part of the practice’s future development. This creates excellent opportunities for career progression, technical development and increased responsibility as the team continues to expand.

The Role
You will support the preparation and delivery of:
- Surface water and foul water drainage strategies
- Flood Risk Assessments
- Attenuation and infiltration systems (including management of site investigation)
- Technical SuDS designs and drainage calculations for Planning & Construction
- Preparation & submission of applications to statutory bodies & water companies
- e.g. Section 104 / 106 / 185 / 50 agreements.
- Land Drainage Consent applications.
- FRAP & EA Environmental Permits
- Hard landscaping & infrastructure design
You will work alongside experienced engineers, planners, architects and environmental specialists to develop practical and innovative drainage solutions for a diverse range of developments.
As your experience grows you will be encouraged to visit sites to investigate existing networks or supervise specialist investigations and explore the surroundings often critical to establish the correct drainage strategy.
The role will also involve liaison with clients, Local Authorities, Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs), and the Environment Agency.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking someone who is technically capable, eager to learn, and interested in developing their career on complex and varied projects.
You should ideally have:
- 2+ years’ experience in a consultancy role
- Experience preparing or assisting with Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategy reports
- Experience designing or assisting with surface water and foul water drainage systems
- Good knowledge of the UK ‘National standards for sustainable drainage systems (SuDS)’
- Working knowledge of SuDS, attenuation systems and infiltration design
- Experience using InfoDrainage software
- Strong communication and report-writing skills
- A degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent commercial experience)
- Progression towards chartership (MICE or CIWEM) would be advantageous
- Full UK driving licence
- Be able to achieve National Security Vetting CTC / Level 1B clearance.
