Materials Planner
Location: Ossett, West Yorkshire
Hartwell Manufacturing is a family-run engineering business with nearly 50 years of experience delivering high-quality acoustic enclosures and heavy steel fabrication projects. From our Ossett headquarters, we support clients in the power, data centre and industrial sectors with engineered solutions built on precision, collaboration and reliability. The culture is hands-on, team-focused and proud of the work we produce.
As Hartwell continues to grow, we are looking to strengthen our Supply Chain team with the appointment of a Materials Planner.
This role will take responsibility for coordinating incoming materials and ensuring the right goods are available at the right time to support production requirements. Working closely with Procurement, Production, Stores and wider operational teams, you will help maintain clear visibility of material requirements, delivery schedules and any potential supply issues.
You do not necessarily need to come from a fabrication background. We are looking for someone with strong planning and coordination skills who is comfortable working in a busy manufacturing, engineering or supply chain environment.
The Role
Key responsibilities will include:
- Planning and coordinating incoming materials in line with production requirements.
- Monitoring material availability across live and upcoming projects.
- Liaising with suppliers regarding delivery dates and outstanding orders.
- Working closely with Procurement, Production and Stores to ensure materials are available when required.
- Maintaining accurate delivery schedules and material planning information.
- Tracking incoming goods and identifying potential shortages or delays.
- Proactively chasing overdue or at-risk deliveries.
- Communicating changes in material availability to relevant internal teams.
- Supporting production planning by ensuring clear visibility of material status.
- Helping resolve discrepancies relating to quantities, delivery dates or material availability.
- Maintaining accurate records within internal systems and spreadsheets.
- Supporting the wider Supply Chain team with day-to-day planning and coordination activity.
About You
We are looking for someone who is organised, methodical and comfortable managing multiple priorities at the same time.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience in materials planning, supply chain, production planning, purchasing support or a similar coordination role.
- Experience within manufacturing, engineering, logistics or another fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Good attention to detail.
- Confidence communicating with suppliers and internal departments.
- The ability to monitor several orders and requirements simultaneously.
- A proactive approach to identifying and resolving potential supply issues.
- Good IT skills, including Excel and experience using ERP or MRP systems where possible.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a wider operational team.
Previous experience within heavy fabrication is not essential. More important is your ability to plan effectively, keep accurate information and ensure materials arrive when the business needs them.
Why Hartwell?
Hartwell continues to grow rapidly, with increasing demand across the power, data centre and industrial sectors. This role offers the opportunity to join a busy and developing Supply Chain function and play an important part in supporting production and project delivery.
If you are an experienced Materials Planner or Supply Chain Coordinator looking to join a growing engineering business, we would be interested to hear from you.
