We are seeking a suitably registered, experienced and motivated Building Inspector to join our professional and successful Building Control team and help us provide an excellent service to all our customers.
Duties and responsibilities of the Role
The Registered Building Inspector role is a key part of the Building Control team. Ideally you will already be registered with the Building Safety Regulator at level 2A-F however we will consider applications from individuals currently registered at level 2A who wish to progress and take on a wider range of work and complexity in the future.
The main areas of responsibility for this role are: -

assess Building Regulation applications for compliance across the city and wider area and carry out appropriate enforcement activity where necessary.

liaise with applicants and agents in relation to Building Regulation applications.
- undertake site inspection activity in relation to Building Regulation applications.

undertake assessments of dangerous structures to ensure public safety is maintained and carry out other public safety work.

operate in accordance with defined protocols and procedures, to ensure compliance with the Operating Standards Rules.
Essential skills/qualifications
This role requires an excellent understanding both of construction and current legislation. You will need to be a competent communicator and be proficient in organising your own workload. You will also be

a member of a relevant professional body e.g. RICS, CABE, CIOB or equivalent or working towards this.

educated to degree level or have suitable experience.

current in terms of Continuing Professional Development.
Our District
Bath & North East Somerset is a fantastic part of the country containing both the historic City of Bath and beautiful surrounding countryside. Building work in the district is varied and interesting, involving a good mix of residential, commercial, educational and health care sectors and covering all types of projects involving alterations to existing historic buildings and exciting new build schemes.
The Team
The Building Control teams sits within the Planning and Building Control Service. The team is well established and consists of 8 Registered Building Inspectors who undertake the full range of duties. There is also a Structural Engineer and a team of dedicated Technical Support Officers. We also carry out work on Higher Risk Buildings on behalf of the Building Safety Regulator.
