We are seeking an experienced and confident Senior Residential Childcare Worker to help establish and lead a brand-new residential children’s home. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping a new service from its very beginning.
You will support young people aged 8–17, many of whom have experienced trauma, ensuring they receive consistent, nurturing, and therapeutic care that promotes their wellbeing and development.
As part of the leadership team, you will supervise staff, oversee daily operations, ensure compliance with all regulations, and support the Registered Manager in delivering the highest standards of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead by example in delivering high-quality, child-centred care.
- Supervise, support, and mentor residential childcare staff to ensure best practice.
- Oversee and maintain compliance in areas such as fire safety, health & safety, and COSHH.
- Manage the safe storage, administration, and recording of medication.
- Approve and review care plans, risk assessments, and other key documentation.
- Work collaboratively with the other Senior RCWs and the Registered Manager to provide effective leadership for the home.
- Deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence, ensuring smooth running of the home.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with external professionals and agencies.
- Ensure all records, reports, and logs are accurate, up to date, and compliant with regulations.
- Promote a culture of continuous training, development, and improvement within the team.
Essential Requirements
- Substantial experience in residential children’s services.
- Minimum of 6 months’ experience in a senior or supervisory role within children’s services.
- Proven experience supervising staff.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and relevant legislation.
- Ability to work flexibly on a rota basis, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – highly desirable.
