Job Purpose
To take day-to-day ownership of the site stores function, ensuring that jobs, stock, spares, materials and customer equipment are accurately controlled, located and available when required.
The Site Stores Coordinator is responsible for the physical organisation and movement of jobs and materials across the site, working closely with the Production Planner, Purchasing and operational departments to ensure production requirements are supported effectively.
The role will manage the various departmental stores and stockholding areas, including ABB, NIDEC, ECO365, automated carousels, spares and other designated storage areas.
A key purpose of the role is to ensure that employees do not lose productive time searching for jobs, stock, spares or materials. The successful person will establish and maintain a stores environment where we know what we have, where it is and whether it is available.
The role reports to the Operations Manager, while the Production Planner determines the operational priority of jobs required for production.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Planning & Job Allocation
· Work closely with the Production Planner to understand daily and upcoming production requirements.
· Use the Production Planner's priorities to identify which jobs need to be located and made available to the relevant departments.
· Locate jobs required for production and ensure they are allocated and moved to the correct operational area.
· Ensure jobs awaiting production are clearly identified and stored in designated locations.
· Investigate jobs that cannot be located or where the physical location does not correspond with the business system.
· Re-prioritise stores activities in response to changes in the production plan.
· Support the smooth physical flow of work between stores and operational departments.
2. Site Stores Management
· Take day-to-day ownership of ABB stores, NIDEC stores, ECO365 stores, automated carousels, spares stores, general workshop stores, job holding areas and other designated storage areas.
· Maintain clearly defined and identified storage locations.
· Ensure jobs, stock and materials are stored logically and consistently.
· Ensure items are placed in designated locations rather than being left within workshops or temporary areas without control.
· Regularly review storage arrangements and identify opportunities to improve accessibility and space utilisation.
· Maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout all stores areas.
3. Goods, Materials & Job Movements
· Receive jobs, stock, materials, spares and equipment into the appropriate stores areas.
· Check identification and relevant documentation before items are stored.
· Allocate appropriate storage locations and record movements accurately.
· Move jobs between stores and operational departments according to production requirements.
· Receive completed jobs from production and transfer them to the appropriate holding or dispatch location.
· Support loading and unloading activities where required using appropriate material-handling equipment.
· Ensure customer equipment and company stock are protected from avoidable damage while being moved or stored.
4. Location & System Accuracy
· Maintain accurate job, stock and material locations.
· Update movements promptly and investigate discrepancies.
· Correct inaccurate locations where authorised to do so.
· Escalate recurring system or process issues.
· Ensure unidentified items are investigated
· Maintain the stores so other employees can determine where an item or job is located
5. Health & Safety
· Follow all company health and safety procedures.
· Maintain stores and storage areas in a safe condition.
· Use appropriate PPE and material-handling equipment.
· Ensure jobs, stock and equipment are stored safely and securely.
· Maintain safe pedestrian, vehicle and emergency access routes.
· Report damaged racking, storage equipment or handling equipment immediately.
· Undertake manual-handling activities appropriately.
· Support controlled scrapping and disposal activities.
· Identify and report potential hazards within stores areas.
Skills & Experience
Essential
· Highly organised with strong attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership.
· Comfortable working within a practical engineering, workshop or manufacturing environment.
· Confident using computer-based stock, job or business systems.
· Good problem-solving ability and able to investigate discrepancies rather than work around them.
· Able to work independently, use initiative and constructively challenge poor working practices.
· Reliable, flexible and consistent in maintaining agreed processes and standards.
· Good understanding of health and safety, manual handling and housekeeping requirements.
Desirable
· Previous stores, stock control, warehousing or engineering logistics experience.
· Experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
· Forklift truck licence or appropriate material-handling qualifications.
Pay: £10.00-£14.00 per hour
