Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable, practical and versatile Caretaker / Maintenance Worker / Handyman to oversee the upkeep and general maintenance of our premises.
The role is primarily based at one site in Bedford but will also involve attending nearby properties and sites as required.
We are flexible on hours and can offer either part-time or full-time work depending on the candidate’s experience, skill set and availability. This role may suit someone looking to work around family commitments or another role, provided they are reliable, committed and able to manage responsibilities properly.
The successful candidate will help ensure the safety, cleanliness and general upkeep of the property, contributing to a welcoming, safe and well-maintained environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections of the property to identify maintenance needs or safety concerns
- Perform general repairs including basic plumbing, electrical work, carpentry and painting where required
- Carry out general handyman and maintenance duties
- Maintain communal and external areas to a high standard
- Ensure all fixtures, fittings and equipment remain in good working order
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and reported issues
- Change locks, handles, bulbs and basic fittings as required
- Assist with deliveries, site organisation and minor property setup tasks
- Liaise with contractors and report larger maintenance issues to management
- Keep records of maintenance activities where necessary
- Assist with garden and outdoor upkeep including bin areas and general tidiness
- Maintain cleanliness and presentation of communal areas
- Support the general smooth running of the property portfolio
Skills & Requirements
- Previous caretaker, maintenance or handyman experience preferred
- Practical knowledge of general maintenance, plumbing, decorating and repairs
- Ability to troubleshoot issues and work using own initiative
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Reliable, trustworthy and punctual
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Flexible attitude and willingness to assist at nearby sites when required
- Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual tasks
- Strong communication skills and professional manner
- Full UK driving licence and transport are essential
