Junior Operations Manager
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £28,000 to £30,000 per year
Job type: Full time, on site
Start date: Within four weeks of receiving an offer
Build towards a management career while learning how to run the work behind a business. As a Junior Operations Manager, you will help coordinate daily activity, resolve practical problems and support client delivery. You will work directly with senior managers, developing the judgement and organisational skills needed for greater responsibility.
We offer practical coaching, involvement in planning meetings and opportunities for promotion based on demonstrated capability and available positions. Whether you already work in administration, customer service or team coordination, this role gives you a route into operations with support as your responsibilities develop.
About the role
Based at our Newcastle workplace, you will support the people, processes and information that keep daily operations moving. That could mean checking progress against a delivery deadline, preparing figures for a management meeting or helping colleagues resolve a gap in communication.
You will report to a senior manager and work with colleagues across business support and client delivery. Initially, your focus will be on understanding our systems and completing delegated work accurately. As your knowledge develops, you will coordinate larger pieces of work and contribute recommendations to operational decisions.
Priorities can change during the day. You will need to judge what requires immediate attention, communicate delays early and keep routine tasks moving alongside urgent requests.
Your responsibilities
- Help organise daily workloads, checking deadlines and making sure colleagues understand the actions assigned to them.
- Track outstanding tasks and project milestones, following up with the relevant person when progress falls behind.
- Maintain operational records, shared schedules and process documents so the team works from accurate information.
- Prepare concise reports using activity figures, service measures and other agreed performance indicators.
- Support client communication by recording requests, confirming next steps and keeping senior colleagues informed of potential issues.
- Coordinate meetings, prepare relevant information and record decisions with clear actions and completion dates.
- Investigate recurring problems, such as missed handovers or duplicated work, and suggest practical changes.
- Assist with onboarding by organising materials, explaining established procedures and helping new colleagues find the information they need.
- Contribute to planning discussions by gathering information, checking practical requirements and highlighting delivery constraints.
- Escalate complaints, resource shortages or decisions outside your authority promptly, with a clear explanation of the issue.
What you will need
- Strong organisation, including the ability to prioritise competing requests and meet agreed deadlines.
- Clear written and spoken communication, with confidence asking questions and explaining information to different people.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, including basic spreadsheet use.
- Attention to detail when checking figures, updating records and preparing documents.
- Practical problem solving skills and the judgement to recognise when additional guidance is needed.
- A willingness to receive feedback, apply it and be accountable for the quality of your work.
- The right to work in the UK, availability to attend our Newcastle workplace daily and the ability to start within four weeks.
Experience in administration, operations support, customer service or project coordination would be useful. Examples of organising a shift, supporting colleagues or improving a routine process are particularly relevant. Previous management experience is not essential.
Development and progression
Your initial training will cover our operating procedures, reporting tools and service expectations. You will observe how senior colleagues plan workloads and handle issues before putting those approaches into practice with guidance.
Ongoing coaching will focus on skills you can use immediately: interpreting performance figures, prioritising resources, conducting productive meetings and giving clear instructions.
Regular reviews will assess your progress and identify the next responsibilities you are ready to handle. Promotion decisions will consider your results, consistency and ability to support others, alongside business requirements.
Working with us
We value people who flag problems early and follow through on agreed actions. You will have access to experienced colleagues for advice, alongside clear expectations for your own contribution.
