Role Overview
We are seeking a Systems Integration & Design Engineer to help develop Byohm’s technology from bespoke engineering systems into standardised, modular products.
The role will combine CAD and detailed engineering design with broader responsibility for product architecture and site integration, defining how externally sourcedcomponents, fabricated parts, pipework, electrical systems, instrumentation and controls come together as a complete system.
This is a hands-on multidisciplinary engineering role suited to someone who enjoys understanding and developing complete systems rather than individual components in isolation.
At interview, candidates will be expected to demonstrate recent experience of fulfilling a similar role on a pilot- or industrial-scale multidisciplinary process system, integrating mechanical, electrical, controls and site infrastructure, within the last two years.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, general arrangements and installation drawings.
- Translate product requirements and engineering concepts into detailed designs suitable for manufacture, procurement and installation.
- Develop the physical system architecture and layouts, integrating mechanical equipment, pipework, electrical systems, instrumentation and controls into modular product configurations.
- Define interfaces between equipment, components and customer/site infrastructure.
- Develop site-level system architecture, defining how the products integrate with site utilities, electrical infrastructure, pipework, controls and existing customer systems.
- Produce and maintain P&IDs, equipment layouts, BOMs and technical specifications.
- Support component selection and supplier engagement, considering cost, reliability, maintainability and manufacturability.
- Support site surveys and translate site constraints into installation and utility requirements.
- Maintain drawing standards, revision control and engineering documentation.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Experience in mechanical, systems, process or multidisciplinary engineering design.
- Strong 3D CAD and engineering drawing capability using Fusion 360.
- Experience designing equipment, machinery, process systems or industrial installations.
- Good understanding of mechanical equipment such as tanks, pumps, valves, pipework and fabricated assemblies.
- Ability to understand and coordinate interfaces between mechanical, electrical and control systems.
- Experience producing or working with P&IDs, general arrangements and equipment layouts.
- Ability to take incomplete engineering concepts and develop practical, buildable solutions.
- Good communication and documentation skills, particularly when working across different engineering disciplines and suppliers.
Desirable Skills and Experience
The following would be advantageous:
- Experience designing, integrating or delivering wastewater treatment systems, such as MBBR, MABR, anMBR, MBR, UASB, anaerobic digestion (AD) or comparable process technologies.
- Experience producing BOMs, equipment specifications or procurement documentation.
- Familiarity with Autodesk AutoCad.
- Full UK driving licence.
Personal Attributes
We are looking for someone who thinks at system level, is practical and comfortable working across engineering disciplines, and can turn an incomplete concept into a clearly defined, manufacturable and installable system.
Qualifications
- Degree, HNC, HND, higher apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechatronics, Design Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- A qualification or technical background providing a strong foundation in mechanical systems, fluid handling, engineering design and the integration of multidisciplinary equipment would be particularly relevant.
- Applicants with substantial relevant industry experience will also be considered where they can demonstrate strong technical competence, practical engineering judgement and experience taking multidisciplinary systems from design through to manufacture, installation or commissioning.
Pay: £35,000.00-£48,000.00 per year
