We are recruiting a six-month fixed-term Maintenance Assistant to support the Facilities team with specific projects including, fire compliance activities, painting and decorating, refurbishment projects and general maintenance works.
This hands-on role will support the Facilities Manager in maintaining a safe, compliant and welcoming environment for our residents, visitors and colleagues. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong maintenance skills who takes pride in delivering high-quality work and enjoys working in a care home environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Home's fire safety compliance programme.
- Carry out routine inspections, maintenance and where required, for fire doors and associated components.
- Assist with any actions arising from fire risk assessments, compliance inspections and audits.
- Complete maintenance records and report defects requiring specialist attention.
- Support routine checks of fire exits, escape routes, emergency lighting and other fire safety measures.
- Carry out painting and decorating across resident bedrooms, communal areas and other parts of the Home.
- Complete minor carpentry, repairs and general maintenance tasks.
- Repair and maintain fixtures, fittings, furniture and building fabric.
- Assist with refurbishment projects and improvements throughout the Home.
- Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a safe and organised condition.
- Follow Health & Safety procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Use appropriate PPE and ensure work areas remain clean and safe.
- Minimise disruption to residents whilst carrying out works.
- Promptly report hazards, defects and safety concerns.
About You
- Previous maintenance, building or handyman experience.
- Good all-round DIY and repair skills.
- Experience of painting and decorating.
- Basic carpentry skills.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
- Reliable, organised and able to work independently.
- Previous experience within a care home, healthcare or similar setting.
Pay: £15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
