About the role
SZC is ultimately owned by two shareholders, EDF and HMG. The shareholders hold their investment in SZC through NNB Holdings Company (SZC) Limited. Over the course of the current shareholding arrangements the shareholdings of the two shareholders will change.
The shareholders will fund SZC up until Financial Close through equity in line with the approved schedule and budget. SZC’s business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure (including activities relating to hydrogen, direct air capture and/or desalination) at Sizewell C in Suffolk. The principal objectives of the current development phase of the SZC project are to agree and implement the Capital Raise Plan, including completing an equity and debt raise, agree the core supply chain contracts and obtain the regulatory permits and licences required for the construction phase of the Project (including the core environmental permits and nuclear site licence).
What you'll be doing
The Agent will lead the engineering team for the desalination and CDO onshore scope within the Sizewell C (SZC) nuclear new build project. This includes ensuring site preparation, access arrangements, consents, permits, compliance documentation is in place prior to the works commencing and undertaking assurance reviews to ensure teams are complaint to the accepted plans. It will also include management of the sub-contractors, and CWA team members, input into Contract Administration and organising with other CWA teams to ensure works are co-ordinated and facilitated on a best for project basis. The role is pivotal in ensuring safe, timely, and cost-effective execution of works in alignment with SZC’s strategic objectives and regulatory commitments.
Desalination and CDO Agent role is predominately within a subcontract management role, with the installation of three pipes via a horizontal direction drill method, marine head installation and onshore chamber construction. It also includes liaison with are embedded Owner Participants to ensure the CWA remain compliant with all the consents and permits that are laid out in the DCO and SZB permissions to work. As well as day to day co-ordination of works with Site Delivery providing look ahead forecasts on programmes.
Who we're looking for
Essential
- Experience as a Project Engineer, Section Engineer, or Agent on major civil engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of civil and utility works, pipelines, chambers, reinforced concrete, and earthworks.
- Experience in complex multi‑interface scopes (preferably near marine/coastal or water infrastructure).
- Strong technical understanding of construction sequencing and engineering controls.
- Competence with RAMS, ITPs, quality processes, and construction documentation.
- Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- CSCS (Engineer/Manager grade) or equivalent.
Desirable
- Experience on nuclear‑licensed sites or highly regulated infrastructure.
- Knowledge of desalination plants, water treatment systems, or discharge infrastructure.
- Understanding of UK SHW (Series 500/600) and pipeline installation standards.
- SMSTS or SSSTS certification.
- Working toward or holding professional accreditation (ICE, IStructE, CIWEM).
