Job Purpose
To provide day-to-day operational supervision and support to the Independent Living Team, ensuring the effective delivery of housing and independent living services. The post holder will oversee the daily management of Housing Officers, providing guidance, case support, and operational direction to maintain high standards of service delivery and ensure the team operates efficiently.
This is a hands-on supervisory role focused on people management, operational oversight, and supporting staff with case progression. The role does not include project work, service reviews, or management of an individual Housing Officer caseload.
- Supervise the day-to-day activities of a team of Housing Officers, ensuring effective service delivery.
- Manage team rotas, annual leave, sickness absence, and mileage approvals.
- Provide advice, guidance, and support to Housing Officers on complex cases and determine appropriate next steps.
- Act as the first point of escalation for operational and case management issues, ensuring timely resolution or escalation where necessary.
- Monitor team performance and maintain consistency in service standards and operational practices.
- Support staff development through coaching, mentoring, and regular supervision.
- Ensure operational procedures and policies are followed consistently across the team.
- Liaise with managers and colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the Independent Living service.
- Promote a positive, collaborative, and customer-focused working environment.
- Identify operational issues and implement practical solutions to support effective service delivery.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the level of the role.
- Experience working within housing, independent living, or a related housing management environment.
- Previous supervisory, team leader, or coordination experience, or significant experience as a Housing Officer looking to progress into a supervisory role.
- Good understanding of housing management practices and case management processes.
- Experience supporting staff with operational decision-making and service delivery.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Ability to provide clear guidance, coaching, and support to team members.
- Excellent organisational and workload management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to make sound operational decisions and manage competing priorities.
- Confident in handling escalated issues and supporting case progression.
- Proactive, approachable, and solution-focused approach to work.
- Relevant experience in housing, independent living, or a related field.
- Supervisory or management qualification is desirable but not essential.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Location: Rugby (4 days office / 1 day home working)
