We are seeking a permanent Finance Officer to join our team at the Headington Campus. In this role, you will be integral to our financial operations, ensuring compliance with University regulations and procedures while delivering a high standard of service to internal and external stakeholders.
Reporting to the Head of Financial Operations, the Finance Officer will provide financial and administrative support across the University, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and delivering a high standard of customer service. This is an excellent opportunity to develop experience within Faculty Finance and broaden knowledge of University financial operations.
Faculty Finance supports all faculties across the University, working closely with academic and professional services colleagues to provide advice, financial monitoring and robust processes that support teaching, research and student activity.
Key responsibilities
- Act as a first point of contact for financial queries, providing advice and guidance on policies, procedures and systems
- Liaise with internal teams and external suppliers on purchasing, supplier set‑up, sales and general ledger queries
- Monitor and resolve held, logged and exception reports to ensure timely and accurate payments
- Support budget holders through expenditure monitoring and the provision of regular financial information
- Process and monitor expense claims in line with University policy, escalating non‑compliance where required
- Support month‑end and year‑end activities, including reconciliations, open orders and audit queries.
Skills and experience
Essential
- Experience in a finance or similar role within a complex organisation
- Experience using computerised financial systems and strong Excel skills
- Good analytical skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively
- Strong customer service focus.
Location and working pattern
Based at the Headington Campus (Buckley Building) with hybrid working available. The role is likely to require 1–2 days per week on campus, subject to service needs.
