About us
Andrew Watt Ltd has been supplying car parts to independent garages in Glasgow since 1935, and our continued success comes down to a knowledgeable, friendly team that workshops trust to get the right part, first time. Due to our growing business we now have an opening for two Delivery Driver at our Bridgeton branch.
The role
You'll start out on the van — getting parts to our garage customers quickly, safely and with a smile! Deliveries are local, several runs a day around Glasgow and the surrounding area, so you're back at the branch regularly rather than sitting on a motorway. No HGV licence needed.
But we don't want you to be "just the driver". Everyone here works all 360 degrees of the business, and this job is set up so you learn the rest of it as you go: serving trade customers at the counter, answering the phones, looking up parts on our catalogue and stock systems, picking and packing orders and putting stock away. We'll train you properly and at your own pace.
Our drivers who have learned the parts side are the ones who go on to become Parts Advisors — and that's exactly what we're hoping happens here.
Who we're looking for
The driving licence is essential. Everything else we can teach.
- A full UK driving licence — this one is a must
- A safe, sensible driver who takes care of the van, and other road users
- Reliable timekeeping — our garage customers are waiting on their parts to finish a job
- A friendly, confident manner — you're the face of Andrew Watt Ltd at every workshop you walk into
- Good at getting to know the local area
- Fit enough to lift and move car components (manual handling is part of the job)
- Comfortable picking up computer systems, or willing to learn (stock and catalogue software, email, card payments)
- Keen to learn every side of the business and stay flexible on tasks
- Local to, or within easy reach of, Bridgeton
What would put you ahead of the other applicants
None of these are essential, but any of them will strengthen your application:
- Any car parts knowledge at all — working on your own car counts
- Experience in a garage, workshop or fast-fit centre
- Previous experience with a motor factor or car component distributor — counter, phones or driving
- Multi-drop or trade delivery experience
- Warehouse, stores or picking experience; forklift or manual handling tickets
- A background in retail, admin or customer service — we welcome career changers
What you'll be doing
- Delivering parts to independent garages across Glasgow and the surrounding area
- Loading and checking off your van, making sure every drop is right first time
- Collections from suppliers and picking up returns and old units from customers
- Building good relationships with the workshops on your run — they'll get to know you
- Picking, packing and putting stock away; keeping the warehouse tidy and organised
- Training onto the trade counter and the phones: taking enquiries and identifying the correct parts
- Using our catalogue and stock systems to check availability and place orders
- Processing sales and taking payment accurately
- Covering counter, phones, warehouse and deliveries as part of our 360-degree team
