Job Title: General Machinist
Salary: £17 per hour
Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire
Work type: Full-Time, Permanent | Day Shift, 36 Hours per Week
The Opportunity
Our client, a well-established specialist manufacturing business based in Portsmouth, is seeking an experienced CNC Turner/Miller to join their skilled production team. This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served machinist with experience in both CNC and manual turning/milling who is looking to work in a highly specialised precision engineering environment.
What you'll be doing:

Set and operate both CNC and manual lathes to manufacture precision-engineered components.

Work within a busy machine shop environment while maintaining health, safety and quality standards.

Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and production documentation.

Use precision measuring equipment to verify dimensions and maintain tight tolerances.

Monitor machining processes and make adjustments where required.

Maintain accurate production records and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams.
What you'll have:

Proven experience as a CNC Turner/Miller within a precision engineering environment.

Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

Experience using precision measuring instruments.

Working knowledge of Fanuc controls is essential.

Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Skills & Experience

Experience using XYZ Prototrack controls.

Experience working with Heidenhain control systems.

Experience operating manual lathes and other machine shop equipment.
