We are looking for a commercially focused Procurement and Purchasing Manager to manage and develop our purchasing and supplier function. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing products and suppliers, analysing product performance and purchasing costs, negotiating competitive commercial terms, and ensuring our product range delivers strong availability, value and margins.
Key Responsibilities
· Source, evaluate and manage suppliers, wholesalers and distributors.
· Compare supplier pricing, margins, discounts, delivery terms and product availability to identify the best commercial options.
· Negotiate purchase prices, discounts, promotional support, payment terms and other supplier arrangements.
· Analyse fast- and slow-moving products, sales trends and purchasing volumes to optimise ordering and product-ranging decisions.
· Monitor product costs and margins and identify opportunities to improve profitability through alternative sourcing or negotiation.
· Review expiry and wastage reports and take appropriate purchasing actions to reduce over-ordering and stock losses.
· Monitor supplier performance, including pricing, availability, delivery reliability and product quality.
· Research and source new products and suppliers in response to customer demand and business requirements.
· Support the introduction and commercial evaluation of new product categories and ranges.
· Prepare regular procurement, supplier, margin and product-performance reports for management.
· Maintain appropriate purchasing and supplier records and continuously improve procurement processes.
· Provide occasional operational support where reasonably required, although the primary focus of the position will remain procurement and purchasing management.
The ideal candidate will have strong commercial awareness and an analytical approach to purchasing and supplier management. You should be confident working with sales, pricing, margin and stock data and be able to turn this information into effective purchasing decisions.
You should have:
· Experience or a strong understanding of procurement, purchasing, supplier management or a related commercial function.
· Strong analytical and numerical skills.
· Good negotiation and supplier-management abilities.
· Ability to analyse product performance, purchasing costs and margins.
· Strong organisational, reporting and communication skills.
· Ability to work independently and make commercially informed recommendations.
· Experience within retail, wholesale, FMCG or a similar product-based environment would be advantageous.
