Job Description – Breakfast Club Assistant
Location: River Primary School
Start Time: 7:30am - 9am
Reports to: Breakfast Club Lead / Wraparound Care Manager
Contract: Part-time, term-time only
Purpose of the Role
To provide a welcoming, safe, and nurturing start to the school day for children attending Breakfast Club. The role involves preparing and serving breakfast, supporting play and social activities, and maintaining a high standard of care and safeguarding at all times.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Welcome children and parents positively each morning, ensuring a calm and friendly atmosphere.
- Prepare, serve, and clear away healthy breakfasts in line with food hygiene and allergy procedures.
- Supervise children during breakfast and play activities to promote positive behaviour and inclusion.
- Set up and tidy away equipment, ensuring the environment is clean, safe, and ready for the school day.
- Lead or support a range of quiet and engaging activities (e.g. art, games, reading, construction play).
- Ensure children are safely escorted to their classes at the end of the session.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and emergency procedures at all times.
- Build positive relationships with parents, school staff, and other members of the breakfast club team.
- Attend relevant training and contribute to the continuous improvement of the wraparound provision.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience of working with children in a school, nursery, or childcare setting.
- Friendly, caring, and professional approach.
- Ability to communicate well with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Awareness of safeguarding, child protection, and health & safety responsibilities.
- Reliable and punctual.
Desirable:
- Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to complete training).
- Paediatric First Aid qualification.
- Knowledge of inclusive practice and supporting children with additional needs.
Hours and Pay
- Start time: 7:30 am
- Finish time: 9:00 :am
- Days: Monday–Friday, term time only
- Salary: Dependent on experience and qualifications

- Ongoing training will be provided to support development within the role.
