Due to retirement, T&B Containers Ltd is recruiting a qualified and experienced HGV Transport Manager to take full responsibility for our established transport operation and act as the nominated Transport Manager on our Operator’s Licence.
We operate a fleet of Scania and Volvo HGVs, together with a large curtain sided trailer fleet, supported by our own well-equipped in-house workshop and Webfleet telematics.
This is a genuine management position with the authority and company support to run the operation properly.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure full Operator Licence compliance.
Oversee the Workshop Manager, vehicle and trailer maintenance, PMIs, defects and annual testing.
Driver inductions.
Manage drivers’ hours, tachograph and Working Time compliance.
Maintain driver licence, CPC and training records.
Oversee driver standards, performance and compliance.
Support the transport planning team to maximise fleet efficiency. This may also include holiday/sickness cover, if necessary.
Manage Webfleet telematics, tracking and dash-cam camera systems.
Monitor OCRS performance, roadworthiness, and compliance standards.
Lead accident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions for all incidents, collisions, and complaints.
Drive continuous improvement, operational efficiency and sustainability initiatives.
Promote a proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation.
Essential Requirements
Transport Manager CPC in Road Haulage – National or International.
Proven experience managing an HGV transport operation.
Strong knowledge of Operator Licence compliance, drivers’ hours, tachographs, roadworthiness and DVSA requirements.
Working Time Regulations.
Able to be named on our Operator’s Licence and satisfy Traffic Commissioner requirements.
Full UK driving licence.
Strong organisational and management skills.
Excellent communication and people leadership skills.
High level of IT literacy, including Microsoft Office and Transport Management Systems.
Ensure the Company’s Health and Safety Standards are adhered to.
Experience overseeing an in-house workshop.
HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence would be advantageous but are not essential.
Ideally living local to PE22 9DL would be preferable, due to the business needs.
