Head Chef
CHOP at The Edith Cavell | Norwich
£37,000–£40,000 DOE
Full Time | 45–48 Hours | 5 Days Per Week
Help build one of Norwich’s best independent steak restaurants.
CHOP is an independent premium steak restaurant located above The Edith Cavell in the heart of Norwich.
Our philosophy is simple: exceptional steaks, quality ingredients and genuine hospitality.
We’ve created a focused menu and a well-organised kitchen that allows us to concentrate on what matters most—consistency, quality and delivering an outstanding experience for every guest.
We’re now looking for a Head Chef to take ownership of the kitchen and help shape the next stage of CHOP’s journey.
This isn’t a large brigade or a corporate kitchen. It’s an opportunity to lead a small, quality-driven team, influence the direction of the business and build a kitchen you’ll be proud of.
The Role
As Head Chef, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the kitchen, ensuring every service is delivered to the highest standard.
You’ll lead from the front, maintain exceptional consistency, manage food costs, develop your team and create a positive, professional kitchen culture.
Working closely with the owner, you’ll have genuine input into menus, suppliers, systems and the future growth of the restaurant.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead every service and run the pass.
- Deliver consistently exceptional food.
- Manage ordering, stock control and supplier relationships.
- Control food GP and minimise waste.
- Maintain HACCP, food safety and hygiene standards.
- Organise prep and ensure an efficient, well-run kitchen.
- Recruit, train and develop your kitchen team.
- Maintain a clean, organised and professional working environment.
- Work alongside the owner to continually improve standards and the business.
About You
You’ll probably already be a Head Chef, although we’d also love to hear from an experienced Sous Chef ready to take the next step.
You’ll be someone who:
- Leads by example.
- Takes pride in consistency and attention to detail.
- Understands food costs, stock control and labour management.
- Enjoys coaching and developing others.
- Is organised, calm and reliable under pressure.
- Wants to build something rather than simply inherit another kitchen.
What We Offer
- £37,000–£40,000 DOE.
- Full-time, 45–48 hours over five days.
- Christmas Day and Boxing Day off.
- Staff meals whilst on shift.
- Staff discount.
- Genuine input into the future development of the restaurant.
- Supportive, hands-on independent ownership.
- The opportunity to build and develop your own kitchen team.
Why Join CHOP?
We’re not trying to be the biggest restaurant in Norwich.
We’re focused on becoming one of the best.
If you’re passionate about quality ingredients, take pride in your work and want the opportunity to lead a kitchen where your contribution genuinely matters, we’d love to hear from you.
Apply today with your CV and a short introduction telling us why you’d like to become the next Head Chef at CHOP.
