About Us
Ennerdale Brewery is an independent microbrewery nestled in the heart of Cumbria, dedicated to brewing high-quality, handcrafted ales using traditional methods and locally sourced ingredients. With a passion for innovation and consistency, we are looking for an experienced Head Brewer to lead our brewing operations and drive the next phase of our brewery’s growth.
The Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Head Brewer with a minimum of three years’ experience in a senior brewing role. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of brewing processes, recipe development, quality control, and production management. Proficiency in the Breww management system is essential, as the role requires overseeing stock control, batch tracking, and brewery scheduling through this platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of brewing operations, ensuring high-quality and consistent beer production.
- Manage and mentor the brewing/delivery team, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
- Use Breww to track production, inventory, and sales integration efficiently.
- Develop and refine beer recipes, maintaining Ennerdale Brewery’s signature styles while exploring new offerings.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including HACCP and SALSA standards.
- Manage raw material procurement, supplier relationships, and cost control.
- Maintain brewery equipment, scheduling maintenance and troubleshooting issues as needed.
- Work collaboratively with sales and marketing teams to promote the brewery’s range and contribute to brand growth.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Head Brewer in a commercial brewery.
- Strong technical brewing knowledge and experience in recipe development.
- Proficiency in Breww brewery management software.
- Understanding of brewery health and safety, food safety regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Passion for craft beer and a drive to innovate and improve brewing processes.
Desirable Skills
- Formal brewing qualifications (e.g., IBD Diploma, Brewing Science degree) are a plus.
- Experience with cask, keg, and small-pack production.
- Knowledge of environmental sustainability in brewing operations.
