Head of Sales
North West England · Permanent, full-time · circa £50,000–£60,000 + commission + car / allowance
The opportunity
Acorn Environment Services Ltd is a small, family-run environmental services specialist with over 30 years’ experience in pest control, water hygiene and specialist cleaning. Having built a strong regional foundation, we’re ready to scale — and we need a commercially driven Head of Sales to lead that growth.
This is a hands-on, autonomous role. As a small family business, you’ll carry the sales function personally — owning the strategy, winning new B2B business across our service lines and personally closing high-value deals, working closely with the Managing Director and Operations team. As sustained growth is achieved, there may be scope to build a small Sales team of your own.
What you’ll do
- Lead the sales function personally — setting strategy, targets, KPIs and a structured sales methodology.
- Win new business across priority sectors: facilities and property management, housing associations, local authorities, NHS estates, schools and care homes, construction, retail and property portfolios.
- Lead tenders, frameworks and major bids (Find a Tender, Contracts Finder, PQQs / ITTs).
- Operate as the hands-on sole sales lead, with scope to build a small team as sustained growth is achieved.
- Manage strategic accounts, driving cross-selling, renewals and recurring / pre-planned maintenance contracts.
- Ensure clean handover of won work to Operations and report performance to the leadership team.
About you
- Proven B2B sales track record with measurable revenue growth achieved personally.
- Experience selling outsourced or compliance-led services into commercial and / or public-sector clients.
- Self-starter who can work autonomously and carry a sales function in a small, family-run business.
- Strong new business, negotiation and tender / bid skills, with pricing discipline and margin awareness.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regionally and UK-wide.
Desirable: experience in environmental services, pest control, water hygiene / Legionella, or facilities management; knowledge of ACOP L8 / HSG 274; familiarity with public-sector procurement; and the appetite to build and lead a small team as the business grows.
What’s on offer
- Salary: circa £50,000–£60,000 basic.
- Performance-related commission / bonus linked to recurring revenue, margin, strategic wins and renewals.
- The tools that you need for the job (Our enthusiastic office team already use Salesforce and Service Tracker and you'll have their full support to help you extend our reach)
- Company car or car allowance, plus fuel card for business mileage.
- Pension, holiday entitlement and further benefits.
- Regional and UK-wide travel.
