Scope and responsibilities:
Join South Devon College and make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people with visual impairments. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate professional to support High Needs students, enabling them to fully access and engage in high-quality learning opportunities across campus. Working closely with specialist staff and within a multi-agency framework, you will play a vital role in removing barriers to learning, adapting resources, and promoting independence, inclusion and achievement. This is an exciting opportunity for a patient, resourceful and inclusive individual who is passionate about empowering learners to reach their full potential in a supportive and forward-thinking educational environment, while contributing to a culture that values equality, safeguarding and continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will hold GCSE Maths and English at Grade A–C (or equivalent) and a Level 2 qualification, or be willing to achieve this within the first year, alongside relevant specialist training in visual impairment. You will have experience in learning support, SEND or coaching, including working with blind or visually impaired young people, and be confident using low vision aids and specialist technologies such as screen readers and magnification software. A strong understanding of how vision loss impacts learning and development is essential, along with excellent communication skills and experience in handling data. You will be approachable, patient, reliable and flexible, able to act as a positive role model while promoting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
