Position Title: Social Media Assistant
Location: West Calder Community Centre, West Calder, West Lothian
Hours: 12 hours per week
Contract: Fixed-term for 12 months
Salary: Living Wage rate
Reporting to: Community Centre Manager / Development Coordinator
About West Calder Community Centre
West Calder Community Centre is a vibrant community hub that delivers activities, events, and services for local residents. We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Social Media Assistant to help increase community engagement, promote events, and support income generation activities that help sustain and grow our community programmes.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be resident in West Lothian
- Be either:
- A young person seeking employment, or
- A parent returning to work who is currently unemployed
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Be available to work 12 hours per week for the duration of the 12-month contract
Purpose of the Role
The Social Media Assistant will play a key role in increasing awareness of West Calder Community Centre, promoting events and activities, and supporting fundraising and income generation initiatives through engaging digital content and online campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media Management
- Create and schedule engaging content for Facebook and Instagram
- Develop graphics, posters, and promotional materials using Canva
- Monitor social media channels and respond to enquiries where appropriate
- Increase followers, engagement, and community participation online
- Capture photos and videos at community events for promotional purposes
Event Promotion
- Promote community centre events, classes, workshops, and activities
- Create event listings and online promotional campaigns
- Work with staff and volunteers to gather information and stories for social media content
- Produce regular updates highlighting upcoming opportunities and successes
Income Generation Support
The postholder will support the development and promotion of income generation activities including:
- Easyfundraising campaigns
- Crowdfunding initiatives
- Amazon Wish Lists
- Online donation campaigns
- Fundraising events and appeals
- Sponsorship and community fundraising promotions
Administration & Communication
- Use Microsoft Outlook for email communications and calendar management
- Participate in team meetings using Microsoft Teams
- Maintain content schedules and simple performance reports
- Keep accurate records of social media activity and campaign outcomes
Essential Skills and Experience
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence using Facebook and Instagram
- Experience creating digital content with Canva
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams
- Good written English and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Enthusiastic, creative, and willing to learn
Desirable Skills
- Experience of community, charity, or voluntary sector activities
- Experience promoting events or fundraising campaigns
- Basic photography or video editing skills
- Understanding of crowdfunding and online fundraising platforms
