Waddington Unit is a 26 bedded acute Haematology and Oncology ward that care for male and female patients. The ward has a high acuity, fast paced clinical admissions setting that cares for acutely unwell patients as a result of haematological and oncological conditions such as spinal cord compression and neutropenic sepsis as well as facilitating the delivery of chemotherapy.
About the role
The role involves working as an autonomous practitioner and will include providing holistic palliative care to end of life patients as well as managing the conditions and side effects associated with cancer, chemotherapy & radiotherapy including Neutropenic sepsis, superior vena cava obstruction, spinal cord compression, pain management and hypercalcemia as well as the administration of immunoglobulins and all blood products. The position offers an opportunity to develop administration of cytotoxic chemotherapy and to assist with intrathecal chemotherapy following appropriate training.
Experience in looking after patient with the above conditions is not essential as we will offer support as necessary. Our well established team will support you to gain a range of extended skills and knowledge to contribute to continuing professional development including, intravenous administration pack, caring using Central Venous Access Devices and Chemotherapy administration with support and guidance whilst learning. The opportunity to attend non mandatory study days to enhance your skills and knowledge.
We can offer a supernumerary period designed to explore all that the ward has to offer, time allocated with your mentor and members of the various MDTs with whom we work and provide a tailor made program to introduce you to the ward.

Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) have come together in a Group arrangement, with the goal of improving the care provided to patients across the county.
This will not constitute a formal merger of the two organisations, but will bring the Trusts together under a single Board and Executive Leadership Team, with the goal of improving the care that is provided to patients both in the community and in hospitals across Lincolnshire. Both Trusts will retain their separate statutory names and legal obligations.
The Group will be known as Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group (LCHG).
