We are looking for a reliable, proactive and hands-on Gardener / Handyman & Installation Assistant to join our team, maintaining a portfolio of Hotels and private properties across Central London.
Based from our premises in Battersea, this is a varied, year-round role combining professional garden maintenance with practical handyman work and the opportunity to assist our floristry team with creative and seasonal installations.
This is not just a standard gardening position. Throughout the year, you will work across a range of high-quality London properties, and during our busy Christmas season you will also help with the installation and removal of Christmas trees, decorations and displays.
We are looking for someone practical, hardworking and enthusiastic who takes pride in their work and is equally comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Regular lawn mowing, edging and general lawn care
- Maintaining flower beds, planters and borders
- Watering and irrigating plants appropriately to encourage healthy growth
- Hedge trimming and cutting back shrubs and plants
- Seasonal pruning and general garden maintenance
- Weed control and keeping outdoor areas clean and presentable
- Using gardening hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
- Assisting with general handyman and DIY tasks
- Identifying and reporting maintenance issues
- Working professionally at hotels and private properties
- Liaising with clients in a polite and professional manner
- Assisting our floristry team with creative projects and installations
- Supporting the installation of Christmas trees, decorations and seasonal displays
- Assisting with Christmas takedowns and removals in January
Applicants must:
- Have the legal right to work in the UK
- Have previous professional gardening or garden maintenance experience
- Have practical DIY and general handyman skills
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- Be confident driving large vans in and around London
- Be able to reliably travel to our Battersea base, including for early starts
- Be comfortable with starts from 4:00am–6:00am when required
- Be flexible regarding occasional weekend and overnight work during peak periods
- Be confident working at height and using ladders safely
- Be physically fit and comfortable carrying out manual work
- Be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Be reliable, trustworthy and punctual
- Have good customer service and communication skills
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Have a proactive and positive approach to work
- Have excellent attention to detail and take pride in the finished result
Skills & Experience
You should have:
- Good knowledge of garden and landscape maintenance
- Experience maintaining lawns, flower beds, planters, hedges and shrubs
- Familiarity with gardening hand tools, including spades, rakes and pruners
- Confidence operating relevant power tools safely
- Good practical problem-solving and DIY skills
- A professional manner when working at clients' homes and hotel properties
An interest or experience in floristry, prop making, Christmas decorating, installations or other creative work would be a real advantage.
Pay: £15.00-£20.00 per hour
