The Acute Medical Unit would welcome any applicants who are dedicated and keen to make a difference to join the team as a Clinical Support Worker.
The AMU is a specialist short stay unit which provides rapid assessment, diagnostics, and treatment for acutely unwell patients . Patients are admitted to the unit after being accepted under the care of medicine and are transferred directly from the Emergency Department, Same Day Emergency Care, GP or other specialised clinics. The AMU is a high-pressure environment which focuses on delivering urgent treatment and facilitating patient flo w throughout the hospital , patients are generally either discharged within 48-72 hours of admission or transferred to a specialist ward for further treatment.

A full preceptorship package is available to support your needs and training is provided so that you gain the necessary clinical skills required for the role if you do not already have the competency.
Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.
Support the patient with maintaining comfort and hygiene by delivering personal personal care.
Support the patient emotionally by building trust, actively listening, building therapeutic relationships, encouraging patient independence, acting as an advocate and supporting the patients family/friends/carers.
Provide support in nutrition and fluid management.
Report to and support the Registered Nurse.
Assist the registered nurse with diagnostic testing by performing venepuncture and ECG.
Ensure the environment is kept clean, tidy and safe.
Follow the infection prevention guidance.
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
