ELECTRICAL ENGINEER – CONTRACT
Royston, Hertfordshire
Approx. 6-month contract with potential to extend subject to business need
Are you an experienced Electrical Engineer with a background in developing complex products from initial concept through to manufacture?
I'm recruiting for a contract Electrical Engineer to join a product development team working on complex, high-value mechatronic equipment.
This would suit somebody who has genuine product development experience and is comfortable taking responsibility for their own electrical designs, supporting them through development testing, build and commissioning.
The key requirement for this role is product development experience. You must have previously worked on engineered products from concept, through development and into manufacturing.
What you will be doing:
- Delivering electrical designs to provide machine control functionality for new products
- Overseeing development testing of your electrical designs
- Supporting product development build and commissioning activities
- Designing AC and DC power distribution systems
- Designing machinery safety circuits in line with relevant global directives, regulations and standards
- Supporting the development testing and commissioning of machinery safety circuits
- Creating and maintaining Bills of Materials for your electrical designs
- Producing and managing electrical and machinery safety documentation
- Defining and communicating electrical interface specifications and agreed protocols
- Working collaboratively as part of cross-functional engineering project teams
- Working with third-party suppliers to ensure externally purchased electrical and electronic systems meet the required standards
- Contributing to engineering design reviews
What we need:
Alongside strong concept-to-manufacture product development experience, you'll need a good level of experience across:
- Electrical design for complex, high-value mechatronic equipment
- AC and DC power distribution systems
- Electrical design to meet EMC requirements
- Electrical and machinery functional safety testing
- Electrical and electronic communication hardware such as RS232, RS485, USB and Ethernet
- Electrical CAD tools, ideally EPlan
- UK, EU and US electrical product directives and regulations
- Working effectively within cross-functional engineering teams
Knowledge of standards and regulations covering areas such as UKCA, CE, the EU Low Voltage Directive, EU EMC Directive and NFPA 79 will be important.
Experience of any of the following would also be beneficial:
- Electrical design for sensor technologies
- AC servo motor control
- Machinery or equipment developed for the life science industry
- SAP for Bills of Materials and engineering documentation
- Engineering change control processes
- Standards including EN 60204-1, EN 61010-1, EN ISO 13849, EN 62061 and EN 61326
You'll need to be somebody who can work autonomously when required while also being comfortable working collaboratively with the wider engineering team.
The contract:
The initial contract is expected to be for approximately six months, with the potential to extend depending on ongoing business requirements.
