Our Client is seeking a proactive and customer-focused Sports Centre Assistant to support the day-to-day operation of its Sports Centre.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a passion for health, fitness and customer service to work within a busy sporting environment, supporting students, staff and members of the public.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the Sports Centre operates safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard while delivering an excellent customer experience.
To act as the welcoming face of the Sports Centre during operational hours, ensuring the safe, efficient and effective day-to-day running of the facility.
The role involves supervising the Sports Centre and Fitness Suite, delivering gym inductions and fitness classes, setting up and dismantling sports equipment,
maintaining high standards of health and safety, and providing excellent customer service to students, staff and members of the public.
- Assist with the day-to-day supervision of the Sports Centre.
- Welcome and supervise students, staff and members of the public using the facilities.
- Ensure all users comply with Sports Centre rules and procedures.
- Carry out regular building patrols and respond appropriately to any issues that arise.
- Support the smooth operation of all sporting and fitness activities.
- Deliver fitness classes for students, staff and members of the public.
- Conduct gym inductions and facility tours.
- Develop basic fitness programmes where appropriate.
- Supervise users within the Fitness Suite and free weights area to ensure the safe use of equipment.
- Encourage participation in fitness promotions and activities.
- Set up sporting equipment for activities, classes and events.
- Safely dismantle, clean and store equipment following use.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained in accordance with health and safety requirements.
- Report defective or unsafe equipment promptly.
- Provide a professional front-of-house service.
- Respond to customer enquiries in person and over the telephone.
- Operate the Sports Centre booking system.
- Process registrations and maintain accurate administrative records.
- Handle card payments and assist with daily cash reconciliation where required.
- Liaise with user groups to ensure their requirements are met.
- Support the planning and delivery of sporting and fitness activities.
- Promote Sports Centre services and encourage participation across students, staff and the wider community.
- Monitor attendance figures for activities.
- Assist with sports and fitness promotional campaigns.
- Maintain promotional displays and information throughout the facility.
- Carry out opening and closing safety checks.
- Complete regular inspections of the Sports Centre throughout each shift.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness across all areas.
- Complete daily cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Report maintenance issues and arrange for equipment to be withdrawn from use where necessary.
- Ensure all activities are delivered in accordance with health and safety procedures.
- Maintain the appearance and presentation of all Sports Centre facilities.
- Support colleagues by providing cover during periods of absence where required.
- Maintain professional standards and adhere to uniform requirements.
- Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably required, commensurate with the level of the role.
- Level 2 Gym Instructor Qualification.
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
- Experience working within a customer-facing environment.
- Recent experience working within a health and fitness environment.
- Experience delivering fitness or exercise classes.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work on your own initiative.
- Flexible and adaptable approach.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Reliable team player with a positive attitude.
- Ability to work evening shifts.
- Comfortable working weekends and holidays where required.
- Ability to set up, dismantle and move sports equipment safely.
- Additional fitness or exercise class qualifications (e.g. Circuits, BoxFit or Studio Cycling).
