Could you help bring a user-centred approach to the design and transformation of services across North East Lincolnshire?
If you’re curious, collaborative and motivated by improving services for people, this could be the role for you.
We are looking for an Associate Service Designer to support the Council and its partners to redesign services using a user-centred, evidence-led approach. Working closely with Service Designers in the Transformation Team, you will help services understand user needs, explore opportunities for improvement and develop practical solutions that support better outcomes for residents, staff and communities.
What’s the role all about?
At North East Lincolnshire Council, we are on an ambitious journey to transform how we design and deliver services for our communities. As an Associate Service Designer, you will support this work by contributing to service design and service improvement activity across a range of Council services.
You will work as part of multidisciplinary teams, supporting the design process from discovery and insight through to developing, testing and evaluating new solutions. This will include helping to gather evidence, map services and user journeys, facilitate workshops and engagement sessions, develop design artefacts, and support services to understand the impact, benefits and risks of proposed changes.
This is a role for someone who enjoys working with people, making sense of information and turning insight into practical recommendations that help services improve.
What will your day look like?
No two days are the same. You will work alongside Service Designers, colleagues, partners and stakeholders to understand how services are experienced by residents and identify opportunities for improvement. Using a range of service design tools and techniques, you will support user research, gather and analyse evidence, map services and processes, and help build a clear understanding of user needs and service challenges.
You will help plan and facilitate workshops, engagement activities and co-design sessions with staff, residents and partners, ensuring that a range of perspectives are considered when shaping future services. Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to the development and testing of new ideas, helping to create practical solutions that are informed by evidence and centred around the needs of users.
A key part of the role will involve translating complex information into clear and accessible outputs, including customer journeys, service maps, reports, presentations and prototypes. You will analyse qualitative and quantitative data to identify themes, challenges and opportunities, presenting your findings in ways that support decision-making and service improvement.
You will also work with Service Managers and stakeholders to define measures of success, evaluate the impact of change and support the delivery of improvement initiatives. Along the way, you will provide constructive challenge, promote user-centred design principles and contribute to building a culture of continuous improvement across the organisation.
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for a collaborative and motivated individual who is passionate about improving services and confident working with a range of colleagues, partners and stakeholders.
You will have experience of supporting service improvement projects and working collaboratively to gather insight, facilitate discussions, test ideas and refine solutions. You will understand the value of user-centred design, inclusive and accessible services, and evidence-led decision making.
You do not need to be the finished article, but you will need to be willing to learn, develop and apply service design methods in a practical environment. You will be comfortable working with qualitative and quantitative information, be able to identify user needs and service issues, and communicate findings clearly to different audiences.
You will be someone who can organise your workload, manage competing priorities and work independently on routine activities, while knowing when to escalate more complex issues. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, curiosity and the confidence to constructively challenge assumptions will be key to your success.
Above all, you will be someone who is committed to continuous improvement and motivated by the opportunity to help services work better for the people who use and deliver them.
