Job Description – Café Assistant
Location: Cranfield Students' Association
Reports to: Cafe Manager and MBDM
Salary: £14.00ph
Hours: 20-37 hours per week Monday to Friday (occasional evenings and weekends as required)
Purpose of the Role
We are looking for two Café Assistants to help the day-to-day operation of the catering at Cranfield Students' Association café, and buffet/catering service. This is a hands-on role, in a very friendly environment to ensure the smooth delivery of hospitality services over the lunchtime and afternoon periods. The role plays an important part in creating a welcoming social environment for students while supporting the Association's commercial income. A certain amount of flexibility is required and is reciprocated by us but along with a generous leave entitlement.

Key Responsibilities
· Be front facing for the café and buffet/catering service.
· Work alongside the team during trading periods for café and catering duties as required.
· Maintain positive relationships with the team and student customers.
· Support the Cafe Manager in identifying opportunities to increase sales, improve services and work smarter.
· Assist with promotional activities, themed events and special occasions.
· Complete daily cashing up.
· Ensure compliance with food safety, allergen, licensing and health and safety legislation.
· Maintain HACCP documentation, Challenge 25 procedures and all required compliance records.
· Ensure the café and catering areas remain clean, safe and well presented.
· Support wider CSA events and commercial activities as required.
Person Specification
· Ideally experience within a café or hospitality environment but this is not essential. The right attitude and personality is half the role!
· Great customer service and communication skills.
· Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
· Knowledge of food hygiene although training will be provided.
· Experience of making barista coffees (desirable).
